A Great Read

The kids (hubby, of course) bought me The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch for mother's day and I just finished it. I had seen his lecture on YouTube and cried, so I knew the book would be a tear-jerker and it was. It is definitely a book in which I think everyone should read, the advice he passes on, the humor, the emotion and the "frankness" of it all. I didn't know this man, but through this I was able to glimpse at to who this person was and because of his book, I want more for my life. So much of the time we consume ourselves with the small things and no matter how often we here it from others that we shouldn't focus on the small things, it is always the small things, the dishes aren't put away, the toys are everywhere, etc...and really if you pause and separate yourself and look at the big picture what damage is it if the dishes aren't put away?

It wasn't until I had children that I realized how selfish and superficial I was at one point in my life, and having them in my life makes me want to be the best person I can possibly be and reading this makes me want to be the best parent I can be. There are times when I ask myself am I making the right choices for my children, am I doing things right as I know how delicate their little souls are and I know how easily their spirits can be broken, so I hope as a parent that I'm encouraging my little ones to be creative and to dream BIG.

So if you haven't read the book, read it - it is a definite must have.
