The Paradoxical Commandments

I logged on to blog and was reading some of the other blogs that I follow and one of the posts by another blogger caught my attention and as I was reading it, I knew I had to share it on mine. To see her posts, you can visit http://domesticwitch.blogspot.com/2010/02/paradoxical-commandments.html

The Paradoxical Commandments is a poem and book by Kent M. Keith - I'm going to look for his book, his message is so true and simple.

The Paradoxical Commandments

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered; Love them anyway

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies; Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you; Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years building, others could destroy overnight; Built it anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous; Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten; Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.

I enjoyed this poem probably because it is so very true. And a lot of times you don't find kindness in strangers, your lucky if you get a smile and why? Why is it so hard to smile or offer a kind word or gesture to someone. Have we become that suspicious of everyone and their motives; I know that I can't look in the mirror and say I have not been guilty of one or more of these. How about you?
